Hello world

Profile

I presented hello world in 2010. It is generative art animation using an original algorithm. Since then, for more than a decade, I have explored various expressions using just that one algorithm.

Nowadays, it is probably closer to the reaction-diffusion method used by generative artists. But the similarities are not the same. This is because I discovered this original algorithm by accident while playing with Flash. (Later, I was surprised to learn that this method is similar to the Japanese lacquerware manufacturing method called Tsugaru-nuri.)

The theme of hello world was "boundaries" (description). I like the phenomenon of boundaries emerging from gradations. I feel that the "All of creation" exists here. The algorithm I found by accident was also discovered when I was studying this phenomenon of boundaries.

At that time, generative art was not as popular as it is today. Also, I was probably the only one who used this kind of expression in my work. This my algorithm can be generated in real time, used Flash, on a low-spec machine environment in 2010. And the code I wrote for it is super chaotic...😵‍💫

The MIMIZU (MIMIZU means Earthworm) I started in 2018 is the culmination of my long commitment to generative art. The "boundaries" of hello world led me to the "digital stitch" of worms. Initially, it was shown as a video work at Audio Architecture exhibition in Japan. Although the appeal of worms lies in still images. (Of course, they are also cool in Animation!)

At MIMIZU (hicetnunc), I carefully select from a huge number of still images and animations, and sell them for the price of a few pizzas (Some pizzas may be too expensive). Jonas Mekas used to select from his own video works and present them as photographic works, so my method may be similar to that.

The number of people who like worms is gradually increasing, Thanks. In the first place, it was planned to end at MMZ111. But I'll try to keep it going for a little while longer. If a large number of worms were left unsold and the room became unmanageable with worms everywhere, I would run away🏃‍♂️

I hope you can feel that deep inside this colorful and chaotic world, there is only one big rule running through it.
